Musician Cao Van Ly was born and raised in an amateur family in Hong Ngu – Dong Thap. During the resistance war against the French, he was a musician of the Long Chau Sa provincial literary troupe. In 1954, he studied at the Vietnam Music School and continued to train at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Soviet Union. Musician Cao Van Ly used to work at the People’s Radio Station of Ho Chi Minh City and was a lecturer at the Department of Ethnic Music at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
With the desire to contribute to ethnic music in general and Southern folk songs in particular, during his work and teaching period from 1975 to 1985, the musician composed more than 20 songs with folk influences. there are new lyric such as: Ly My Hung, Ly Trang Soi, Ly Tu Phung, Ly Qua Cau, Ly Dem Trang, Ly Dem Trang, etc. Up to now, these tunes have become popular in ancient songs and songs. on the cai luong stage… In particular, he has just finished the collection of Dong Thap tunes.
